Music

Music at Providence Presbyterian Church is an integral part of Worship and Christian Education.  Our church is blessed with an exceptional Music Department with many opportunities for all ages to participate in "making a joyful noise unto the Lord."

We have both singing and handbell choirs and a number of talented musicians who make-up an exciting and inspirational music ministry.  New singers and ringers are always welcome!

Music Director: Valetta Fellenbaum
Organist: John Dixon

Our singing choirs include:

Chancel Choir
If you're an adult who loves to sing, even though you may not have strong music reading skills, this group's for you!  The Chancel Choir sings most Sunday mornings during the Worship Service.  Rehearsals are held weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM.  Anthems for the Sunday Service are rehearsed for several weeks prior to their presentation, so that everyone is comfortable with the music.

Joyful Noise
This choir welcomes youth in grades six through twelve.  They substitute for the Chancel Choir on occasion, singing the anthem and responses for the Service.  Rehearsals are on Sunday mornings in the Chancel from 9:00 to 9:45 AM.

Singing Souls
This children's choir welcomes those in grades two through five.  They sing in the Worship Service about once every five or six weeks, and also present a Spring musical.  The group meets on Sunday mornings in the Choir Room from 9:00 to 9:45 AM.

Cherub's Choir
This children's choir welcomes those children ages 4 through first grade.  They sing in the Worship Service about once every five or six weeks, and also join with the Singing Souls for special occasions.  They meet on Sunday mornings in the Fellowship Room from 9:00 to 9:45 AM.

Our handbell choirs include:

Bells of Providence
This adult handbell choir is comprised of experienced ringers who work with five octaves of handbells.  They play frequently in the Sunday Worship Service and participate in area handbell festivals.  Music reading skills are essential to feel comfortable in this group.  The group learns bell technique and enjoys exciting musical challenges. They  rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM.

Merry Bells
This adult handbell choir is for those with little to no ringing experience.  If you want to learn more about music and bells, this is the group for you!  The group meets on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM.

Youthful Bells
This ringing group is for youth in grades six through twelve.  Ringers will improve their music reading skills, learn handbell techniques, play in the Worship Service, and possibly attend a youth handbell festival.  The group meets on Sunday afternoons from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.

Joyful Chimers
For children in grades three through five, this group uses handchimes, which are lighter than handbells but played with the same techniques.  It's an excellent group to learn the essentials of handbell techniques and music reading.  They practice on Sunday evenings from 6:00 to 6:30 PM.
