JOHN S. DIXON
Organist / Composer-in-Residence

Born in England, John Dixon was classically trained in piano and organ.  During his school years he was active in music in the Anglican church.  As a founding member of The Southend Boys Choir, one of Britain's foremost youth choirs, he performed in many notable concert halls and cathedrals in England and elsewhere in Europe.

His first attempt at composition for public performance, at age 16, was a score for an original play performed by the Southend Youth Theater Group.

Moving to America in 1988, John and his wife, Karen, joined Providence Presbyterian Church where his interest in the composition of traditional church music flourished.  John is a prolific composer.  He has written many original piano/organ duets, solos for organ and other instruments, and choral works.

The music of John Dixon is founded on the harmonious arrangements of strong melody, and an accessible level of technicality, to encourage confident and frequent performance.
